From “The Rocks,” this vintage exhibits a semi opaque ruby color and an intense nose of wild fruits – blackberries, huckleberries, black currants – with scents of black roses, mulberry, maduro wrapper, truffles, brewed coffee, garrigue and smoldering spiced incense. The flavors are massive and deep cored, permeated with black licorice, bittersweet chocolate, espresso, and distinct Rocks minerality and earthy funk. The saturation continues on the back with sensations of roasted berries and walnuts, crème de cassis and cacao, fruit confit, and dried blueberries, all thrusting onward into a lingering, full throttle, lusty ripe tannin finish. This delivers a lot for the price.
19.5/20 points.
